Using COMBricks SNMP feature to visualize Data on SCADA

COMbricks allows you to remotely monitor your PROFIBUS installations from anywhere in the world and will alert you if any faults arise or are likely to arise.

It’s a modular platform able to carry repeater and fiber optic modules. Over Ethernet, the condition of the installation can be remotely inspected with ProfiTrace OE (in a web browser).

COMBricks

So with ComBricks you can inspect the condition of the PROFIBUS network such as:

  • Live list (which devices are communication and what is the status of these devices).
  • Statistics (check if devices are lost or not responding on time).
  • Electrical measurements (signal quality and voltage level).

COMBricks2
With SNMP you can retrieve any data via Ethernet that has been controlled by the ComBricks system. This SNMP data can be used by network management tools or SCADA systems to visualize the controlled data.

COMBricks3

So the SNMP will allow you to use all beneficial ComBricks features in your SCADA system.
It can retrieve some general information such as firmware and hardware versions, also some Ethernet statuses such as IP and MAC Addresses, and some device information such as temperature, current, voltage and IO status, and most importantly the PROFIBUS condition such as the LiveList, Statistics and physical measurement per slave.

COMBricks4

Using the SNMP feature of the COMBricks will allow the operator to:

  • See what the communicating devices are, and who’s the non-communicating one and will show the reason of the faulty device. All this can be checked directly from the Scada system without having to go and connect to the PROFIBUS network directly.

COMBricks7

  • Check the Voltage level of the devices and make sure they are all in the accepted range. When a device got a low voltage, that means to investigate to prevent that device from falling down.

COMBricks6

  • Check the signal quality of the network right away from the Scada system, and easily locate and understands the issue.

COMBricks5

* ALL these troubleshooting steps can be done directly from the SCADA

What are the Benefits of connecting a COMBricks system into WinCC or PCS7?

Beside the main benefits of COMBricks such as Separating the network with repeaters, isolating Electrical issues, Profitrace OE, Redundancy with single Master,… etc, comes the SNMP feature to help the user to directly monitoring the status of the network on SCADA systems by opening a web page inside the SCADA which will help to:

  • Give the operators the ability to monitor the PROFIBUS network status from their working station.
  • Reduce the time of Troubleshooting by checking the PROFIBUS network status remotely instead of checking in the slave itself.
  • Increase the preventive maintenance efficiency by monitoring the status of the slaves and directly act to the issues.
